1 Timothy 6:18-19
Our foundation is crucial to our stability. Think about the foundation of your house. If there is a crack or things start shifting you get it fixed right away! About 6 months after we bought our house we had to have ours fixed, 19 piers put in! It was so frustrating because we were new home owners and our inspection said all was well. But we didn't play around, once we knew what was up we fixed it.
Everyone has a standard that they guide their lives with. This is your personal foundation. As Christians, we need to solidify our foundation with acts of Christ, Biblical truths, and by immersing ourselves in the Word. Daily reading the Bible will add layers to your foundation, and prayer keeps you in constant contact with the greatest house contractor, the Holy Spirit.
And as with any foundation, our spiritual foundation can crack and shift. Not repenting from sin, living a sin filled life, neglecting prayer and assembling with like believers - all of these can chip away at your spiritual foundation. All of this can leave you vulnerable to attacks from the enemy. So by "storing up for themselves a good foundation" you are helping yourself stand firm when things get rough.
